The Optimum Index Factor is calculated to determine the band combination which shows the maximum information when combined into a composite image. The bands comprising the highest scoring combination from oif operation are used as the three color channels required for Grass_Raster_RGBcompositeService.
The OIF coefficient indicates which set of bands presents the greatest variance (the level of dispersion of data within the band is as high as possible) as well as the minimum correlation coefficient between bands (the information for each band is independent from the other two). [Pinilla, 1995]
